Peer Participant Agreement
Effective date: 1 June 2026 · Version: 1.0.0
This Peer Participant Agreement (“Agreement”) governs your use of the CrewOutpost desktop or CLI client (“Client”) to participate in the CrewVid peer-distribution network (“the Network”). It supplements and is incorporated into the Terms of Service.
1. What You Are Agreeing To
By installing and running the Client, you agree to:
- Donate a portion of your device's storage, CPU, and bandwidth to store and serve encrypted video chunks to other viewers.
- Allow the Client to run as a background service, including at system startup if you enable “Start on login”.
- Comply with this Agreement and the CrewVid Terms of Service.
2. What Is Stored on Your Device
The Client stores only encrypted video chunks. Each chunk is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before leaving our servers. You never have access to the decryption keys. You cannot read, play back, or identify any content stored on your device from the chunks alone.
You set the maximum storage quota. The Client will not exceed your configured limit.
3. What Is Transmitted
The Client sends encrypted chunks to viewers' browsers via WebRTC data channels. All data transmitted is encrypted at rest and in transit. You do not have access to plaintext content at any point.
4. Network Exposure
To serve chunks efficiently, the Client may need to accept inbound WebRTC connections. If your device is behind a NAT (network address translation) router and you have not configured port-forwarding, you will be marked as a “NATted” peer. NATted peers may earn fewer credits as they can only accept connections through a relay.
You are responsible for ensuring your participation in the Network complies with your ISP's terms of service.
5. Credits and Rewards
You earn credits for each verified chunk successfully served to a viewer. Credits can be redeemed for ad-free viewing hours on CrewVid. Credits have no monetary value and are non-transferable. We may adjust credit rates, redemption values, or the rewards programme at any time with reasonable notice.
We reserve the right to withhold or revoke credits if we detect abuse, including but not limited to: self-serving (serving chunks to your own viewing sessions), coordinated rings, falsified receipts, or inflated bandwidth claims.
6. Resource Usage
The Client is designed to be a low-impact background service. However:
- Disk usage is limited to your configured quota.
- Bandwidth usage depends on demand from viewers. You bear any costs your ISP charges for data usage.
- CPU usage is minimal outside of chunk serving. Future features (e.g. transcoding) may use more CPU and will require separate consent.
7. Legal Responsibility
You are not responsible for the content of the encrypted chunks stored on your device, as you have no ability to read or identify them. We indemnify Peer Participants against claims arising solely from storing or transmitting encrypted chunks in good faith in accordance with this Agreement.
You are responsible for ensuring that running the Client does not violate any laws or regulations in your jurisdiction.
8. Data Collected from the Client
We collect: your device's public IP address, declared storage quota, uptime metrics, and chunk-serving statistics. This data is used to operate the Network, assign chunks, and calculate credits. See our Privacy Policy for details.
9. Termination
You may stop participating at any time by uninstalling the Client or disabling it. Upon termination, chunks assigned to your peer will be redistributed to other peers. Credits earned before termination remain redeemable for 90 days.
We may revoke your participation in the Network if you violate this Agreement or the Terms of Service.
10. Disclaimer
THE CLIENT IS PROVIDED “AS IS”. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY THAT YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE NETWORK WILL RESULT IN ANY PARTICULAR CREDIT EARNINGS.
11. Changes
We may update this Agreement from time to time. We will notify you via the Client or by email before material changes take effect. Continued use of the Client after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
